The Trees Have Eyes by Bruce Clarke

Dead oak on the coastal path just east of Lymington River on the Solent. It was a wonderful tree, looked like an elephant from another direction. The glint in the eye was just a well placed cobweb.

What a wonderful dragon, Bruce.
You can put the location if you like.
I know they don't on the Oly challenge, but we've tended to do it here.
Up to you though.
Anyway, it looks like one of the trees in Blenheim grounds.
Flick.
