Thanks for the comment Paul! In fact the 'other people' were bits of wood sticking out of the beach but I rather agree anyway, and have now cloned them out! Tim

It works for me. It gives me a sense of a couple lucky enough to have the whole scene to themselves. For that reason I'd have probably cropped out the other people. That way the width and depth gives me a greater context of them enjoying a great view on thier own.

Regards Paul

the static feel is what makes it for me - like an indrawn breath, like a moment out of time or the threshold of a dream.

Hmm, I tried it and it didn't feel right, though I know what you mean. A very tight crop around the couple and just the left-hand column looks good-ish but not as good as this one I think. If you had a moment to tinker to show me how you'd do it I'd be grateful... Tim ps I appreciate the critique!

Asterisk critique: The composition feels too static. Not that symmetry is bad in itself, but the symmetry in combination with proportions just doesn't work for me. I would be inclined to crop the left and right sides so the tall thingies make more of a frame. This would also allow us to see more detail given the size constraints in the challenge rules. - Warren

I can't put it better. Romantic, nostalgic and beautifully composed.
