I was born in West Hoathly so I'm already on your side - but this is unusually good for flash and a really nice portrait in any terms. Tim

I'm amazed at the beautiful skin tones from flash. lovely child too.
Maybe you should do more portraits - you've really captured something here.

Hi Flick - I do think it's better.
As for style - 1/30th 70-200 and flash - it ISTN'T my style - I was just experimenting.

That works so much better, don't you think?
When i first saw it i thought it was a snapshot by someone called West Hoathly (you hadn't put your name with the title) and i was thinking what a pity as the child's face was beautifully captured - and i was wondering when someone would tell him it had to go into the exhibition gallery as wrong camera for a newcomer in the competition gallery.
I really didn't recognise it as your style at all.
The crop brings the eye straight to her face now. You did a wonderful job with making her face sharp yet soft.

Hi Flick - quite right - I was seduced by the look - the right hand side is still a little tricky, it isn't quite as simple as just cropping - still, I think it's better now.
But hey! it was s snapshot you know! thanks for the help jono.

Touching portrait (now don't squirm;-) and beautiful skin tones.
You know what, i can see why you composed it as you did, but for me it doesn't work with the strong shapes to the right competing with the delicacy of the child's features.
I would personally crop a little from the top, then crop to the child's hand on the right.
It would take it from a snapshot to a portrait.
Just my opinion - I'm sure others will like it as it is, but for me the tenderness of the shot is marred by the competing shapes and colours.
Flick.
