"In My Studio/Dining Room" by Warren Sarle

My living room, dining room, and kitchen form a continuous space.
My studio is mainly in the dining room, but in use it tends to
spill over into the living room and kitchen. The vesicular basalt
rock is from New Zealand. It is on loan from one of my colleagues
at work. I have had it for several months, trying to think of some
interesting way to photograph it. The decorative gourd has also
been lying around my studio for weeks. I don't know if this is what
Flick had in mind, but it seems to me that these items have been
an intimate, though transient, part of my environment.

Great shot, the rock almost looks alive, like it's getting ready to leap.

It works for me a great combination for abstract art Thanks, Rancher

Studio lighting of complex textures has always flummoxed me, and this really shows how it should be done. Tim

All above board and legal. If they are part of your daily environment (even temporarily) then they are fine.
anyway, i come from the great school of bullshit (the British art school system) so as far as I'm concerned, if you can justify it, you're on your way to the Turner Prize.
And a staggeringly good shot as well!
Flick.

Well, Warren, they are certainly accoutrements of your environment (if only temporarily), and they are lovingly photographed. Something strangely symbolic, too, about the nodes of the gourd and the lacunae of the rock....ever so yin/yang, animus/anima, etc. I like the whole effect. -- DF
