"Moulin Rouge Confidence" by Charles Gervais - 2nd Place

London, UK

Part of a series of photos for a fund-raising calendar. This beautiful lady and friends are raising funds to go to South America to work on rainforest conservation and education, and _they_ came up with the Moulin Rouge theme (not me, but I didn't try to persuade them otherwise...). Very fun group to shoot :-)

Thanks Flick for bringing me back to visit!

Thanks for the kind words.

The colour version of this is really striking (but hey, I had to go black and white, I'm not gonna stretch the rules _that_ far ;-). The dresses were all hand-made and were really beautiful and quite innovative (hard to tell from this shot, but the black polygonal shapes at the bottom of the corset's cups were fragments of mirrors, pretty cool but made for sometimes irritating specular highlights!).

Pretty simple set up in the studio, really. Main light was a softbox to at 45 degrees to her left, umbrella box (umbrella with diffuser) for fill from her right, and a snoot quite close to her right to illuminate her feathers. Because of the nature of the calendar, the background is an unilluminated black. The dress she was wearing had a lot of shine to it (especially the skirt) and she was quite confident while posing (unlike her two friends, with whom I could have used another several hours each! :-) Chas

Wow, Charles, this is great! One of the more unusual shots in the challenge I think.
How about some info on your studio set up for this?
Flick.
