The Single Tree by Quentin Bargate

Lake District, Cumbria, England

I took this on my recent trip to the Lake District in Cumbria, and its already one of my all time favourite shots. I was incredibly lucky with the light. First, the new foliage was illumiated by a passing shaft of sunlight, and second the shadow cast by the tree is perfectly mirrored by the patch of light on the far side of the lake. I know, I seem to have a thing about trees at the moment, but its pure chance...The image is also pin sharp - f/11 on the 28-200G is as good as any Nikkor I own.

looks like you can reach into your monitor and touch it. I really do need to learn to convert RAW better. Thanks for setting the standard. Any noise reduction done here?

This tree really does have quite the lean to it. It almost appears to be trying to pull away from its' shadow!
The Ullswater area is so full of bucolic charm. When we visited, the peacefulness was spoiled only by an Air Force jet that flew a practice run through the valley. The roar of the engine shook things up for an instant, and then all was back to normal again. --Kim

Spoppit, Flick, you're getting me all worked up :-) Thanks for the comments, and Paul, on this occasion not missing the shot for a change (I was tempted briefly to get the LF kit out - what a mistake that would have been) was down to having the Kodak ready for action...Needless to say it chucked it down with rain moments later - Quentin

Lovely, Quentin. I especially like the way the shapes of tree and clouds echo each other. Catch me sitting under that tree on the wet grass in the sheep dung with ticks crawling up my legs!!!!

Doesn't it drive you nuts! You drive to a scene and just as you arrive the ooo-ahhh moment arrives; of course by the time you get your camera out its past-by and you've got an unkown wait on your hands! Lovely Quentin -Regards Paul

Really nice, I like how you captured the lighting on the tree. It looks like a wonderful place to picnic under and enjoy the scenery. However, from the looks of the clouds, one might soon get wet.
