That is in complete contrast with my copy of the same lens. I did a similar test like yours, using different focus distances, and my Super Takumar 35/3.5 is already very sharp from f/3.5 on. Maybe yours is a bad copy, or I am lucky to find and extremely good one?
Btw, I used a Canon 30D for my testing.

I have this lens and use it with a Spotmatic SPII. I feel it's soft and I'm ready to dump it and jump to the SMC version of the 35mm Tak. This lens is in complete contrast to the 28mm Super Takumar which is sharp and a pleasure to shoot with. Your test confirmed, even at f8, that this lens is soft.
