Cycling in Colorado May 2008

Stan managed to get away for four great days of cycling with friends in early May, 2008:
-- Friday May 2nd: a leisurely ride along the Platte river in Denver with Gregory, Sharon, two women named Sara, and Charo. A URL describing the route is here: http://www.coloradobicyclerides.com/rides/sPlatteTrail/sPlatteTrail.html After the ride, Stan did two laps up Lookout Mountain, definately a more challenging ride. Unfortunately, he did not have a camera with him at the time, but here's a URL describing it: http://www.coloradobicyclerides.com/rides/lookoutMountain/lookoutMountain.html
-- Saturday May 3rd: a beautiful afternoon ride up Red Rocks park. There are some great photos in the gallery shown below, as well as http://www.denver.com/red-rocks
-- Sunday May 4th: a difficult climb up Highgrade Road, looping back through a beautiful descent along Deer Creek Canyon with Gregory, Charo and the two cyclists with the same name, Sara. The ascent was about 3,000 feet, starting at a 6,000 foot elevation. One of the the cyclists had to drop out early, so the photo here shows only four of us at the end of the 50-mile tour. Unfortunately, that's the only photo of the ride - because the group were riding hard and fast, there was no time to stop for pictures! Here's the route they took: http://www.mapmyrun.com/ride/united-states/co/littleton/388160548. Later in the afternoon, Stan met with Kirk, a friend he met at Ride the Rockies back in 2005, for a fast ride through Cherry Creek reservoir loop from his home. It was a good way to spin out after a hard morning climb.
-- Monday May 5th: Sharon and Janet took Stan on one of the hardest rides he has ever done, a short but brutal 18 mile ride up Flagstaff Road, near Boulder. Here's a URL with the route: http://www.coloradobicyclerides.com/rides/flagstaffRoad/flagstaffRoad.html

So there you have it. Four great days of cycling, four great hill climbs, and wonderful friends to ride with. Here are some pictures that Stan managed to take on days 3 and 5 of the ride. Click on the "Red Rocks" photo... there's another gallery there.
