原產地於華東地區.現在主要分佈在長江,珠江流域和山東,而台灣,日本及韓國也廣泛栽培.
山茶分為單瓣或重,原種是單瓣,而重瓣則可多達60片.花期較長,盛花期通常在1至3月.
