Roosters along with pelicans, six fingered "Hemingway" cats and old boozy hippies are mainstays among the unique Key West fauna.
Place is full of these birds running around the cars and tourists, feeding between tables in outdoor cafes and clearing their throats at any time of the day.
And this happens not somewhere in a dusty outskirts but in the middle of the pretty polished and apparently well to do downtown.
Explanation is that historically this particular breed is very good at eating some annoying local mosquitoes and other insects.
