Ann (to her friends) came home for, surprise, laundry and a good meal, and her pennace was to sit for me. After she woke up (her exertions overhelming) we had a small session. This pic is a demonstration on the benefits of shooting in RAW, and a judicious use of a great action.

Obviously I blew the lighting on this first shot, thought I had metered it correctly but screwed up somehow. I liked her pose since she wasn't irritated with me yet. Adjusted the exposure, shadow and contrast; it lacked a little pop so I added a very watered down version of Paul Bleicher's Velvia action, found here: http://home.comcast.net/~bleicher/. Fixed some teenage flaws, and thought it came out pretty well. The progression of her mood can be found here: http://www.pbase.com/kleaf/people

the finished product is amazing . . . so warm compared to the original. Did you blow out the lighting on purpose just to show us what to do?? Not that I COULD do it, but the process intrigues me =]

RAW is the only way to go.
Tor, I know what you mean, it's funny when you take 20 years off someone and they don't notice. Makes you feel good to know you can make people feel a little better about themselves. I'm like a Photoshop plastic surgeon.

Beautiful porttrait. And well rescued. I seldomly reveal to those willing to pose what I have done with their apperance. They just tend to believe it is straight out of camera...

Quite impresive! She has a delightful grin. And I'm blown away by what you can do if the image is in RAW. I've never shot in raw (Elements 2 doesn't process it either) but one of thse days I will. This is quite lovely!

Nice portrait Karen. I liked the different poses in the gallery. I've become a RAW convert and I'll have a look at that Velvia action your referenced.
