Giving Thanks

For many things this year, not least for the friends I've made here.

Especially thankful today that I wasn't born a turkey. (Some things just evolve...) Slaved over this one for 6 hours, basting every 15 minutes. Don't know how Mom did it every year, but I have a new appreciation of her work.

Hope everyone has had a great day.

It is amazing how much time we put into a turkey meal versus how long it takes to enjoy it. :-)

ewwwwwwwwwwww. I've always felt a little sorry for turkeys. Seeing this just makes me feel a little sorrier. But I bet it tasted good after being so lovingly basted all day, no?

Beautiful turkey, Karen. I know what you mean about the old recipes taking so much time and attention. You did a good job on this one.

Looks delicious. I boil mine with vetgetables for an hour at low fire the day before. Then I stuff the cold turkey and put it in the oven for some 3 hours. During this time i open every 15 minutes and spill the vegetable soup over it with a spoon in small amounts. Makes it very juicy and delicious.

You don't need to do that...slave over the turkey; you can cook it in a nylon "turkey bag" and it will come out moist and beautifully done. I can cook a 20 pound stuffed turkey in less than 4 hours and all I do is turn it around in the oven so it browns evenly...
