Veggies and Layer Masks

Was reading a long and detailed post last night on DPreview about layer masks and fixing up photos that needed some help; basically exposing a photo with 4 different settings, then layering them one by one and 'painting' in the correct exposures. Thought I'd give it a real test tonight, there is still alot wrong with this but compared to the original (experimenting at 1600ISO) I wasn't too unhappy. Besides, it took me a long time to get this far, and I'm done!

This is the article if anyone is interested, be prepared for a long session; I didn't know what he was talking about, mostly. *DPreview *

Testing the insertion of a second photo: Veggie original

Karen, this is unbelievable -- I think it looks great. I was drawn to it right from the thumbnails for its rich, deep color. I know sometimes when I try to fix something I get so frustrated from looking at it so much that it's hard to gauge the progress I've made. This looks like a painting. Whatever you did sure works! It's hard to believe they're the same picture, really.

Well the thumbnail jumped right out at me and the finished product is SO much better than your original. I much appreciate you going to the effort and posting the source. I'll have to give that a try.
Thanks for doing technical stuff like this!!

Whilst the photo and effects looks great - all I can think of is what are you going to make with them!?!

Oh yummy...what are we cooking then ?? I'm too tired to blink tonight so might leave that link & read it when the brain is focused, but thanks, Karen.

great color and light--at least that's how it's ended up appearing thanks to your PS work. very impressive.

Now that you've got the masking down, get to chopping. :) The rear center focus, intentional or not, is intriguing

What a great start to photo restoration. You are doing well I think. The edited photo looks much cleaner that the original and the colors are more accurate I find. I guess it's hard to get a little more light out of it, but practice makes perfect right?
Well done Karen

Great work, I don't think I will spend that much time and effort>
I am still trying to get a handle on Photoshop elements

Interesting, I will have to try this. The depth of color is very nice.
Guest 09-Nov-2004 02:45
Hey, that's helpful! It might be useful to me with my nighttime shots I am experimenting with. I must admit to being ADD (seriously) and get a little lost with complicated directions, but I'll give it a look.

And now I want a big salad! Did you think about posting the original, too, so we can see the extent of your photo facelift? Nice work, Karen!
Guest 09-Nov-2004 02:36
You did real well reading directions,Well done if I were doing it anything could happen.
Dennis Croteau09-Nov-2004 02:17
