Ronning's Garden

A few KM before Cape Scott is Bernt Ronnings Garden:

Trees, plants and shrubs from around the world are found along the paths and throughout the fields of the lush, green Ronning's Garden. Started in 1910 by Bernt Ronning. When he passed away the gardens were left neglected for some time. Not for too long as the hidden treasure garden was brought back to life by Ron and Julia Moe. Located on the way to Cape Scott Provincial Park on Vancouver Island. Watch for the Ronning's Garden sign. Follow gravel road driveway. Take the short 10 minute walk into the gardens and start your own self guided tour.

If you want to find the gardens take the road to CS, the gardens on are the right approx 10-15mins before you reach the parking lot if my memory serves correct. There is no sign from the main road altough I think there is a sign the the "cemetary" which is in the same location as the "parking lot" for the gardens. It's worth a stop for sure if you're in the area.

I knew Mr Ronning. A very fine gentleman, always hospitable to hikers(tea and biscuits with homemade preserves)for those willing to stop and chat. His home was behind these Monkey trees(there were 2).

We found the gardens in the rain...amazing to see after such a long time since its conception. Mr. Ronning must have a great foresight. The Monkey Puzzle tree is awesome....such a height! And about 6 more babies have been planted...would like to be around to see them in another 100 years!! For those trying to find the gardens, they are approximately 10 kms from Cape Scott Prov Park....watch for sign on north side of the road and follow roadway a few hundred meters to parking area...can take trail to garden or cemetary,

Nice photos of Ronning's Garden. I'm a akayker with a green thumb intrigued by this garden and how any non-native species planted here have fared over the years. I can't find precise directions to it, though, just "along the trail to the Cape", and that sort of thing.
Anyway --- nice phot of the monkey puzzle tree, I love those.
