Wilson's Phalarope in flight, underside view

I initially could not identify these birds, but I now believe they're Wilson's Phalaropes. They were photographed in western Montana, so the summer range is right. Sibley's guide shows a lighter colored leg in normal plumage, but doesn't show the leg in the breeding plumage illustration. The National Geographic guide mentions black legs in breeding plumage, so that convinces me.

*Excellent* shot, groups in fly are very difficult to photograph so nicely

just an fyi that sibley also shows a dark if not black leg during breeding season... but only on the illustration of the female. I think you're right.
