We were driving down the road looking for the sanctuary (not knowing exactly what we were looking for). I glanced to the left over a marsh and saw a tree full of birds. I got out with my smaller lens and took a couple of shots handheld. Recognizing how extraordinary the opportunity was, I hurried back to the truck and got my tripod, big lens, tall rubber boots and covered up for what I expected would be a long and hopefully interesting stay.
