Located on N. Rampart at the corner of Dumaine, was from 1947 through 1956, the site of the J&M Music Shop and Recording Studio, owned and operated by Cosimo Matassa. His early recordings helped give birth to Rock and Roll. He recorded Fats Domino, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, among many, many others.
The building still stands, with this entry way floor sign being about all that remains of the original studio-shop. It is now a coin laundry. There are two memorial plaques on the exterior, recalling the significance of the site.
