A jumping fish, not sure what kind. Probably one that did not want to get eaten by something down below.

These next shots are Dall’s porpoises. They are compact, muscular porpoises that rival killer whales as the fastest marine mammals in Alaska waters. Their black backs and white bellies and flanks resemble the markings of killer whales, but they are much smaller, averaging about six feet in length and weighing about 300 lbs. (136 kg). They are fast swimmers and often generate a “rooster tail” spray that can be visible at long distances.

At the top of this hill is a concrete bunker built in WWII. They had to watch for Japanese. That would have been a hard place in the long dark Alaskan winter.

A Puffin swimming. It's a Horned Puffin. Horned Puffins are named for the stiff black fleshy horn above each eye. The Horned Puffin is a chunky pigeon sized bird about 22″¯ long and with a 23″¯ wing span. It is black above and white below. It has a white head with a massive red, orange, and yellow bill, which is seasonal. The beaks of most birds are covered by a single horny sheath that is renewed as needed. In Horned Puffins, this sheath thickens into several plates which are shed during molt.

We see some Pelagic Cormorant birds on the cliff. They are the dark gray birds in the middle. Pelagic Cormorant is a small, slender cormorant of the Pacific Coast. They are marine birds that prefers inshore areas rather than the open ocean. It feeds mainly on fish, crabs and other crustaceans and is a deep diver, up to 180 feet. It will grab a fish rather than spearing it. Its small size allows it to spring directly up from the water into the air rather than paddling along the water as other cormorants do.
