I have rode this route before.

Meet at McDonalds In Lexington Norlex Shopping Center
812 Winston Rd ( corner of US hwy 29/70 and Winston Road) Lexington, NC 27295 (336) 249-3464
Leaving at NINE AM. Thats 9 AM
Hwy 8 to Woolwine Virginia. Make right onto 40 Charity Hwy
Go 20 miles
Make left onto Sawmill Road ( VA Hwy 752 ) go 3.7 miles
Make left onto Ferrum Mountain Road ( VA Hwy 640 )
go 1.4 miles and sharp curve to right ( cross bridge ) Hwy 602 now.
Go 1.6 miles and make left onto 5 Mile Moutain Road ( VA Hwy 748 )
7.5 miles to the Parkway. Go south on Parkway 15 miles to Tuggles Gap.
Continue 12.5 miles South on Parkway to Business Hwy 58 ( Meadows of Dan )
Get on Squirrel Spur Road and go 12 miles to Ararat Hwy, make right.
Run that into Mt Airy.... Business 52 into Hwy 52 and back home.
Not giving mileage to Hwy 40 in VA or mileage from Squirrel Spur Road because who cares. Just giving intricate details of the back country VA roads.

Lunch somewheres of course. If enough people we will stop at Bob White Covered Bridge for pictures.
