This is your reminder and detailed email on this month's ride. This Sunday, July 20th.
Come and join us on our ride to Mountain Lake Lodge, where parts of the movie Dirty Dancing were filmed, and...."Have the time of your life".
There are many turns on this ride and I want to remind you to stay tight. Don't lag back or leave too much space between you and the rider in front of you. When we start, identify the rider directly behind you. When we make a turn, look to see if that rider is there. If not and you are the last rider in line, STOP at the turn and wait for the group to catch up. If the ride turns again while you are waiting, someone will be waiting for you. We have not ridden this route before. Please print the following directions and bring them with you. If we get separated, go to the next rest stop. If all works as planned, we will all be together at that stop. We will ride staggered. First in line is on the left, second is on the right and so on until the last 2 wheeler in line. (I will ask all 3 wheelers to bring up the rear. (The ride leader can see the 3 wheelers easily and know the group is all together). At a light or intersection, riders on the right, move up next to the rider on your left so when it is safe to go we are all together. (The rider on the left moves out first).
This ride is being led by my friend Bob Remillard. Bob has done this ride many times and is very familiar with the route. Thanks in advance Bob, I know we will have a great time.
When we get to the resort we will take a 30 minute break. You will have time for the tour or to just wander around the grounds. The cabins and gazebo are the ones that were actually in the movie.
This is not a race or time trial. Allocate the entire day - 8:00 to 8:00. We may get back earlier but if you need to be somewhere at 6:00 it's probably not going to happen. I would like it if we all stayed together at least to the last gas stop. I'm a little tired of folks just dropping out half way back and not telling me. I try to make sure everyone gets back safely and if you disappear I don't know if you wrecked or just left the ride. You can leave when you want to, just let me know.
Please come to the start with a full tank of gas and a good attitude. If anyone can't go more than 70 miles on a tank of gas, please let me know.
These directions are from MapQuest and Bob's experience. There may be minor discrepancies. I will take notes and modify accordingly for next time.
