Jesus is God.jpg

I've put a few things together showing that without a doubt scripture claiming Jesus is God.

In John 8:24, when Jesus says, "unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins," He is telling
the Pharisees and Jewish listeners that they must believe in His identity as the divine Messiah, the "I AM" (God in the flesh), and the Savior. The phrase "I am" directly links to the divine name in Exodus 3:14 and Isaiah 9, identifying Himself as the eternal God.
Meaning of "I Am He" (Egō Eimi): The "he" is not in the original Greek; Jesus says, "unless you believe that I am". This is a claim to Deity, asserting He is the eternal, pre-existent God.

The context of John 8:4 Jesus was speaking to Pharisees who were rejecting His message, warning them that without faith in Him as the source of salvation, they would die in their sins.
By using this phrase, Jesus was declaring that He is the divine savior, not merely a teacher, and that rejecting this identity results in spiritual death. -----------------------------

Job 9:8
He ALONE spreads out the heavens,
And treads on the waves of the sea;
When Jesus walks on water in the Gospels (Mark 6:45-52), he is demonstrating his divinity by doing what only God can do ( as stated in Job 9:8) —subduing the chaotic elements.--------------------

-----------------------------------

2 verses indicating without question that Jesus is God - John 1:1, “in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. John 1:14, “and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us… This says Jesus ( who is the Word and became flesh ) is God.

----------------------------------------------
Repeating - John 8:58, “before Abraham was, I am.”
Exodus 3:14, “God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” So what happened to Jesus when he said " before Abraham was I am " ? In John 8:58, Jesus declares, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am," asserting his eternal pre-existence and direct divinity. By using "I am" (Greek: egō eimi), he echoes God's name revealed to Moses in Exodus 3:14, leading his audience to attempt to stone him for blasphemy. ------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------

John 20:28 records the apostle Thomas’s reaction to the resurrected Jesus: "Thomas said to him, ‘My Lord and my God!’" This confession acknowledges Jesus not only as Lord but explicitly as God. Jesus does not correct Thomas, indicating acceptance of this divine title.----------------------
Paul frequently refers to Jesus with divine attributes. Colossians 1:15-20 describes Jesus as "the image of the invisible God" and states that "in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell." In Philippians 2:6-7, Paul writes, "Though he was in the form of God, [Jesus] did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant."-----------------------------------
The author of Hebrews also affirms Jesus' divinity. Hebrews 1:3 says, "He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature." Moreover, Hebrews 1:8 explicitly states, "But of the Son he says, 'Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,'" quoting Psalm 45:6-7 and applying it to Jesus.-------------------------------------
John 1:3 states that "All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made." Colossians 1:16-17 echoes this, saying, "For by him all things were created... and in him all things hold together." These verses ascribe to Jesus the divine role of Creator and Sustainer of the universe, functions traditionally attributed only to God.------------------------------------------------
In Mark 2:5-7, Jesus forgives the sins of a paralytic, prompting the scribes to question, "Why does this man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?" Jesus’ act of forgiving sins indicates His divine authority.--------------------------------------
Luke 8:38-89 The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, Return to thine own house, and show how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him. Jesus claimed to be God !----------------------------------------------

Jesus cant be " just a man " because Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. God the Father could not accept a sacrifice of someone who was just a man? If all " men " have sinned that would include Jesus if he was just a man. If Jesus was just a man ( for all men have sinned ) , his sacrifice would be no good and unnacceptable.----------------------------------------
Why did the Jews want Jesus crucified ? Answer- Because the Jews said Jesus blasphemed claiming to be one with the Father. The Jews who heard this statement responded by taking up stones to kill Him for blasphemy, as the Mosaic Law commanded (Leviticus 24:16).-------------------------------------------
John 10:33 The Jews answered him, "It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God." In John 10:30, Jesus states, "I and the Father are one," / 3 Persons , ONE GOD-The Bible verse that speaks to the unity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is 1 John 5:7, which states, "For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word (JESUS / John 1:1), and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.-----------------------------------
Jesus is God. Psalms 77:19 "Your way was through the sea, your path through the great waters ( more references to Jesus walking on water ) ; yet your footprints were unseen. ' Who stretches the heavens out like a garment ( curtain )? Psalm 104:2-3 Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain: Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind:-------------------------------------------------
Exodus 3:14 God tells Moses from the burning bus " tell them I AM " sent you. John 8:58 Jesus states, "Very truly I tell you, before Abraham was born, I am!" Jesus is claiming to be God ! In John 18:6, when Jesus, knowing all that would happen, stated "I am he" in response to the soldiers' question about whom they sought, they "drew back and fell to the ground". This event is often interpreted as a demonstration of Jesus's divine authority and power. Take note: in the original Greek there is no (HE ) in this verse, meaning again Jesus was saying " I AM " upon the soldiers seizing him at Gethsamane. The soldiers fell supernaturally backwards at that moment. -----------------------------------------------------

John 1:18 concludes the prologue of John's Gospel by stating that while no human has ever directly seen the invisible God, Jesus Christ—described as the unique God/Son in closest intimacy with the Father—has fully revealed and made Him known. This verse emphasizes Jesus's divinity and his role as the ultimate mediator and revealer of God. The statement was made during a heated dispute with religious leaders who questioned how Jesus could have known Abraham, who lived centuries earlier. John 1:18 reinforces that Jesus is the perfect, tangible revelation of the Father. It bridges the invisible nature of God with human history through the incarnation-------------------------
Isaiah 9:6 states, "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.----------------------------------
"Alpha and Omega" and "First and Last": In Revelation 1:8, Jesus is described as "the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last," which are titles used for God in Isaiah 44:6. ---------------------------
"God" (Theos): Jesus is explicitly referred to as "God" in Titus 2:13 and 2 Peter 1:1. ---------------------------
1 Corinthians 8:6 yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist. This verse says BOTH GOD THE FATHER and the LORD Jesus Christ BOTH are the reasons for ALL THINGS and WHY ALL THINGS EXIST.-----------------------------------------
Daniel 7:13-14 13 “I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man,
and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom,
that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away,
and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed. / Who is coming with the clouds ? But he remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?” And Jesus said, “I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.” And the high priest tore his garments and said, “What further witnesses do we need? You have heard his blasphemy. What is your decision?” And they all condemned him as deserving death. Mark 14:61-64/ When was the acient of days ? The title "Ancient of Days," referring to God, appears three times in the Bible, all within Daniel chapter 7 (verses 9, 13, and 22), in a vision of heaven and the establishment of God's eternal kingdom. So we see Jesus ( God ) being fortold of a future event, fulfilled when He ( God ) returns. We also read that Jesus claimed to be the Son of God .... which means he is equal with God./ Back to Daniel 7:14 - And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed./ Who will all nations serve, who has dominion, who has the glory, whose kingdom will not pass away ? Jesus ! Old Testament Yahweh RIDES THE CLOUDS ! Jesus RIDES THE CLOUDS ! Isaiah 9:11 The Lord rides on a swift cloud. ---------------------------------------------------
This verse is a straightforward no brainer ! John 17:5 In John 17:5, Jesus prays to the Father, asking to be glorified with the glory He had with Him before the world existed. -------------------------------------------------
Romans 9:5- To them belong the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ, who is God over all, blessed forever. Amen. Romans 9:5 highlights the Jewish heritage of the patriarchs and states that Christ came from them according to the flesh, often interpreted as identifying Christ as God over all, blessed forever,---------------------------------------------
Col. 2:9, “for in Him ( JESUS ) dwells all the fullness of DEITY in bodily form.------------------------------
The Father speaks of Jesus being God ! - Heb. 1:8, “But of the Son he [The Father] says, ‘Your throne, O God, is forever and ever.'”--------------------
Titus 2:13 tells us to wait for the coming of “our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus. ( no explanation needed ) ------------------------
JESUS POSSESSES THE UNIQUE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD
God is eternal (Psalm 90:2), unchanging (Malachi 3:6), everywhere present (Psalm 139:7-12), all knowing (Job 37:16, Psalm 147:5), and all-powerful (Jeremiah 32:17).
These attributes belong to God, and Jesus possesses them all.
• Jesus is eternal: Colossians 1:17, “He existed before anything else,
• and he holds all creation together.”
• Jesus is unchanging: Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
• Jesus is everywhere present: Matthew 28:20, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
• Jesus is all knowing: Colossians 2:3, “All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Him.”
• Jesus is all-powerful: Matthew 28:18, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.”
Also, Colossians 1:16, “Everything was created through him and for him.”----------------------

One of the most common objections skeptics raise to the deity of Christ is the idea that Jesus never actually claimed to be God. Sure the church ended up worshiping Him as such, but this was a later development that was projected onto Jesus but wasn’t something He intended to claim for Himself….or so the argument goes.

If you are expecting to find a Bible verse in which Jesus stands on the Mount of Olives and proclaims in English, and every other known language, “I am God!” You won’t find it. He actually did one better….but we’ll save that for the end.

Biblically, there are several ways to know that Jesus is God. He accepted worship, possessed all the eternal attributes of God, did things only God can do, and was given titles of deity. (Those are all great subjects for future blog posts.)

But Jesus did also CLAIM to be God, and here are three times He did just that:

#1 Mark 14:61-62
After His arrest, Jesus was brought before the Sanhedrin, the Jewish court. The high priest asked him point blank: “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?” Jesus replied, “I am…and all of you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.”

Reading with modern eyes, it looks as if Jesus is simply claiming to be a “son of man”—not God Himself. But when set within its cultural and biblical context, Jesus was making a reference to a prophecy in the book of Daniel. This not only identified Him as the “Son of Man” predicted in chapter 7, but the eternal Sovereign Lord of all, who will return to judge the very court in which He now stood trial. When seen in the light of Psalm 110, Jesus was claiming to sit on the very throne of Israel’s God.

Still fuzzy? It wasn’t to the biblically literate Jews who heard him make these claims. In fact, Jesus’ claim to be God was considered blasphemy, and according to Leviticus 24:16Open in Logos Bible Software (if available), blasphemy was punishable by death. The high priest acknowledged his understanding of this by tearing his robes and calling for Jesus’ execution (Mark 14:63-65Open in Logos Bible Software (if available)).

#2 John 10:30
One day, Jesus was walking around the temple complex and was surrounded by some Jews who wanted to know if He was the Messiah. After identifying God the Father as “greater than all,” He said, “The Father and I are one.”

Through modern eyes, this could look like Jesus was simply saying that He and God had some kind of special connection—that they were really “in sync.” But when seen through the eyes of ancient Jews, Jesus was actually claiming to be of the same essence and nature as God Himself.

We only need to look at the reaction of the Jews to know that they understood what Jesus was saying. They immediately picked up stones to stone Him for “blasphemy,” saying, “because you, a mere man, claim to be God!”

#3 John 8:58
While having a heated argument with some Judeans about their relationship to Abraham, they asked Jesus in verse 53, “Who do you think you are?” To this Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” I AM. This is Jesus’ most explicit claim to deity.

Modern eyes might read this and think, I am…. what? Rewind over a thousand years to Exodus 3, where we find Moses standing face to face with a bush engulfed in flames. From within the bush, God calls Moses and unmistakably identifies Himself: “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” When Moses asks for God’s actual name, God answers, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘ I AM has sent me to you.'”

When Jesus identified Himself as “I am,” He was not only claiming to be God, but the very God of the Old Testament: The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Of course, the Jews understood exactly what He was claiming, and once again, picked up stones to execute Him for blasphemy.

Jesus was an intentional and articulate communicator and there was no ambiguous language in His claims to deity. The people to whom he was speaking were not confused—they got the message.

Three times He claimed to be God, and three times they wanted Him dead for it.
