Maybe I dont have much of a life with such trivial posts, but to me this rant I've had about a motorcycle part perplexes me and am greatly curious about it. In short I've called and emailed at least 10 parts suppliers, even antique, specialty and hard to find parts suppliers.......INCLUDING HONDA ! Everyone says they cant find the part, that its obsolete, discontinued and its simply unavailable. Not only did I " Johnny Simpleminded " find it in the Netherlands after a few days searching online, but the staff there said that Honda still makes and supplies this part ! No, I didnt leave this mystery alone. Enquiring minds want to know why all these American parts suppliers claim the part is discontinued and say " good luck" before hanging up. Certainly they believe what someone before them has told them or has on record in their computers. .... or is it that just dont want to bother with going above and beyond the call of duty ?
I spoke with a rep at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. in California for a while today. He had some assumptions about 3rd party vendors possibly still making the part, but then came my question... why does Honda ( in America ) claim that its discontinued ? And IF Honda is still making this part, what the freak are they using it in that is made by Honda ? I reassured them that my part that I recieved from the Netherlands has a genuine Honda parts sticker on it !!
He was interested enough that he said he would call Honda in Japan and try to shed some light on this. Im anxious to hear their answer.
I wonder how many people have sold their bike for parts ( because there are lots of " discontinued " parts ) trusting the motorcycle parts suppliers here in America when they say the part is discontinued . I could have certainly been one of them !
This part was scanned on my home scanner- Its looks like a big washer but its slightly beveled so to give it the properties of a spring. Its the spring that engages and disengages the friction plates on my clutch, and it will wear out. My 750 has a grand prix racing clutch and its not built like most other bikes so dont get confused. Here she is ( with the Honda seal on it ) - http://www.pbase.com/image/156372778

IF this place doesnt have your part, they claim they possibly can make it if they have a blue print.... https://www.cmsnl.com/
