SALISBURY, N.C. — Two people were killed early Thursday morning in Rowan County after the moped they were riding was struck by an SUV and knocked into the path of an oncoming truck.

The accident happened shortly before 4:45 a.m. on Jake Alexander Boulevard near Dan Street.

According to police, two people were on a moped heading southeast in the outside lane of Jake Alexander Boulevard. The moped did not have any lights on, police said.

Police said Patricia Jones was driving a Jeep Cherokee on Jake Alexander Boulevard when she struck the moped, knocking it into the path of a box truck.

The driver of the moped, who was identified as 18-year-old James Dillon Logan, died at the scene, police said.

The second person on the moped, who was identified as 19-year-old Dillon R. Robertson, was airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where he later died.

The driver of the box truck, who was identified as 33-year-old Enedino Caroso of Charlotte, was cited for driving without a license.

Police said investigators are meeting with the district attorney to determine if any other charges will be filed.

No other details were provided.
