Hi Kim, I encountered this bird chasing/hunting a smaller bird in my backyard this morning. I eagerly photographed it as it hunted the various Junkos, Black Capped Chickadees and various other finch and wren types that frequent our feeders. Believe it was a Merlin Falcon. Will attempt to post a picture soon. 11/25/20

Hi Kim,

Really enjoyed viewing your very interesting Merlin images - many thanks for sharing them. In our part of the world this species prefers to breed in the uplands and similar more remote areas so it's great to see that they can successfully adapt to suburban habitats.

Best regards from England, UK.

After viewing these terrific pictures, I wonder if the "hawks" I have seen over the past few years were really Merlins. What a great experience! Let's hope we get a few more nesting pairs that decide starlings are the best tasting item ever!! Pinehurst rocks!!

Thanks for sharing.
