The purpose of building Qihou Fort was to guard the northern entrance of Kaohsiung Habour. The first generation of Qihou Fort was built in 1874.
Originally, there were four characters on the top of Southern Gate. Due to the battle in 1894, two of these four characters were destroyed by bombs.
