The construction of Hengchun Fortress was completed on 1st September, 1879. It is the one and the only one remained ancient fortress which all gates had been preserved.
Originally, South Gate was the main entrance to access the Hengchun Town. Now, the section of fortress and South Gate with Tower are completed preserved which surrounded by a roundabout.
