The main entrance of Bethanie. When Europeans arrived Hong Kong in 19th Century, many of them failed to suit with the sub-tropical environment and suffered tropical disease.
From 1875 to 1974, total 101 fathers were passed away in this sanatorium. Originally, their bodies were buried in here. However, all of them were transferred to Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Chai Wan in 1974.
This is because the sanatorium was sold to HongKong Land in that year.
