Yangon

Founded as Dagon in the 6th century by the Mon, it was later conquered by King Alaungpaya in 1753 and renamed to Yangon.  Its named changed to Rangoon during the British rule 1852 until 1989 - which still some countries call Rangoon.
 
Arriving in overcast weather we headed through the (using-the-horn-means-a-instant-fine) city toward the Mahapasana Cave, where we were lucky enough to chance upon the final exams for the high order monks.  Near by, the Kaba Aye Pagoda (World Peace Pagoda) has various Buddha images donated from around the world.  Then it was to the Nga Htat Gyee (Reclining Buddha) for a very colourful and beautiful reclining Buddha image. 
 
The next day, after coming back from Bago, we headed to the famous Shwedagon Pagoda.  Built around the 6th century, the stupa base is plated with solid gold with the top covered with an umbrella with more then 5000 diamonds, topped by a 76 carat diamond.
