White-tailed Deer
Odocoileus virginianus
This image and the eight following it (in the Canadian Animals gallery) were all taken in the city of Ajax, Ontario, Canada. As usual, I used my favorite Canon 300mm f/4 lens on a 20D. These shots were also underexposed 2/3 of a stop to prevent 'blowing out' the highlights on this bright sunny day. I think that the red branches behind the deer are Dogwood (not 100% sure of this though). This white-tailed deer was very cooperative, and I spent about an hour photographing it. This is a good example of wildlife living in an urban area. These animals are often more relaxed around humans and may seem very tame. People should remember that these animals are wild, no matter how friendly they seem, and use caution around them.
