York has a surprisingly atmospheric center within its medieval walls, a massive Gothic cathedral and an energetic feel. We were there on Queen Elizabeth's birthday and were treated to a raptor demonstration, a 21 gun salute and a two hour long continuous ringing of the cathedral bells.
