Terezin (Theresienstadt)

Terezin was an 18th century frontier fortress town that was turned into a ghetto and concentration camp where 100,000 Czech Jews were interned on their way to Auschwitz. Many died here, not from gassing, but due to starvation and lack of epidemic disease control. The cemetery pictured here is a memorial to the many who died here. Actual remains of these persons were mostly disposed of to avoid incrimination.
