Ruse, a Bulgarian city on the Danube, is where the first rumblings of rebellion led to the uprising in Sofia and the eventual replacement of the Bulgarian Communist dictatorship with a democracy. It has a history as an important trading city. It is home to a number of fine buildings, monuments and park areas.
