This cave was part of the quarries that produced the limestone used ot build Greek Syracuse. Later the cave was used aas a prison during the reign of the tyrant Dionysius. The interior has such excellent acoustics that a listener outside can hear everything being said inside. Its name derives from the myth that Dionysius used it to extract information from his prisoners.
