Before European immigration, the Grand Canyon was inhabited by Native Americans who built settlements within the canyon and its many cliffs and caves. The Pueblo people consider the Grand Canyon (“Ongtupqa” in the Hopi Language) a holy site and make pilgrimages to it.

No one can deny the spirituality of the canyon.
