There was no need to rush to Albuquerque, so we considered a route that would be scenic and different from past routes. Initially, we considered Hwy. 120 through Yosemite to Hwy. 395 on the east side of the Sierra. Tioga Pass through Yosemite had opened early. The campgrounds in Tuolumne Meadows wouldn't open for another 2-3 weeks. Had the campground been open, we most certainly would have taken this route. A late spring storm was moving in with rain and snow and there was threat of Tioga Pass being closed at the last minute. So we diverted to Hwy. 50. This route took us through Markleeville and some lovely high sierra meadows. Not quite as exciting as the Yosemite route, but still very nice.
