This gallery is dedicated to my modified Kodak DCS 460. I moded this camera to use standard NIMH AA Batteries, 10 to be exact. The standard issue battery for this camera is a 9.6 volt NICAD. It is very cranky and it really keeps you limited. I realized that it would take 10 AA's instead of 8 because NIMH batteries only produce 1.2volts each. This is the second I have moded, and both have performed very well for me, giving me updwards of 300 shots per charge. The was you do this is very simple. You remove the base of the camera, and find where the battery is plugged in. Disconnect the battery, and remove it. Then you will cut the battery wires from the lead. Allow at least 2 inches on both sides of the cut. This allows room for you to splice the wires to attach a new wire that will exit out the back of the camera. I basically used a 9 volt type connector attached to the plastic insert that attaches the battery to the board. I ran the cable out through the back of the camera, through a small hole that I made. As you can see in the picture the 9 volt type connector is hanging out of the back. I use the 10AA pack that has this same type of connector so I can easily remove it in the field. Obviously this design has its problems, but compared to dealing with that nutty battery it is worth it, in my opinion.
