Corrugated iron Pukeko? Tue 10

Pūkeko is the Māori word
which is used to describe the Purple Swamphen Porphyrio
porphyria melanotus. This corrugated iron sculpture (of a
Pūkeko?) sits on the verandah (of a gift shop) in Tirau, NZ.

I assume this “sculpture” is meant to represent a Pūkeko
because; the body colour is similar (to the Pūkeko), the bill
is a similar shape and colour and the legs (longish) are a
reddish colour (as they are on the real thing). The bulbous
yellow eyes and sand shoes are outlandish artistic licence.
