the carving shown
in the photo above bears the words; INCORPORATED AD
and the number 1855. After some investigations on “google”
I believed that it refers to Charlottetown, the provincial capital
of Prince Edward Island, which has the motto “Cunabula
Foederis” which translates “Birthplace of Confederation”, and
it (Charlottetown) was incorporated, as a city, on April 17, 1855.
However the City of Ottawa (Canada’s capital city [today]) which
was originally called Bytown, was also incorporated in 1855,
and so was Canada Permanent Loan & Savings Co’y.,
so now I am not sure…
