Too hot?

view map

This is one of the lonely access roads into the Death Valley, California.
It felt like the perfect subject for the longest lens in my bag :)

In his comment on 15 July 2014, Raymond (monminou) shared an interesting story
concerning this place:

"Been there and I asked someone in a gas station why on earth the road was
like that and he had a very logical reason ... there are often flash floods
in that part of the world and should that happen, you get your car on a high point
and be safe ... well, that's the answer I got and it made sense to me!"

The picture is now geotagged (click above on 'view map') for those
interested where it is exactly :)

Wow, what a road, and back story! Great capture too!
cits_4_pets26-Mar-2016 17:23
Reminds me when I bicycled across Highway 50 across Nevada with 3 friends back in the 90s. Good use of a tele to make the road look more undulating.
Carol How23-Dec-2015 21:57
Ha, ha, looks like its just plain melted from the heat and in a flash flood would create a lovely waterfall. Super capture! V

Raymond15-Jul-2014 18:11
The long telephoto lens does a superb job here compacting the image. Been there and I asked someone in a gas station why on earth the road was like that and he had a very logical reason ... there are often flash floods in that part of the world and should that happen, you get your car on a high point and be safe ... well, that's the answer I got and it made sense to me! Love your photo, superb.

I almost flipped my 73 Ford Bronco here. I didn't realize how fast I was going down hill and hitting those areas where the road rises and then goes right back down got me air-born and a Bronco isn't something you want to do that in. V
