But don't be mislead Lake Mungo is now a dry lake. It was part of the Willandra Lakes system during the last Ice Age and dried about 15000 years ago. There is evidence of Aboriginal occupation dating back more than 40 000 years. In more recent times it was a sheep grazing property, Mungo Station. Shearing ceased some years ago and the area is now managed by National Parks and Wildlife Service.
