The Dorset Tower was a forest fire lookout tower
for the area. The tower itselt is 100 feet tall,
the equivilant of a ten story building, and the
viewing deck is 468 feet above the lake surface.
The stairs of the tower are about 6-8 inches in
depth and are a diamond shaped tread where the
ground is visible through them until you are on
the top viewing deck.
The last four sets of stairs are on the outside
of the four legged structure...and the railing is
at best, just above the average person's waist.
On decent the view is unobstructed and one gets
the sensation that a misstep would catapult you
right over the no-existent railing on the landing
below.
