Triangulation of Form

Hellerup, Denmark

The image is the final part of a three-piece work by Danish artist Kasper Bergholt, called Tracing the Hollow (2025). What looks like a glowing crystal is actually a moth — broken down into a web of triangles (Delaunay triangulation), with the moth's real body fading into the grey dust below it.

The moth was photographed on his way home from a Copenhagen exhibition about the painter (Degas' Obsession at Glyptoteket), which showed how Degas spent almost 30 years and 14 layers of paint trying to pin down one fleeting moment of ballet dancers.

The three stages each strip the moth down further: first a straight CCD-based photo, then a version mapped in lines, and finally this one, where the creature is gone and only its geometry remains.
