On a recent trip I noticed this billboard on the side of the road.
I have not seen one like this before.


Wellington Road 17 near Fourteenth Line just outside of Alma.

On Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, Shortreed, 18, went to a house party in Alma.
It was the first night of a long weekend.

He had some drinks and left the party at about 11:30 p.m., walking home to Fergus.

No one is sure why he decided to make the 14-kilometre trek,
rather than get a ride back to town in one of the cabs picking people up from the party.


At 11:53 p.m., he was hit.

At 12:09 a.m., police responded to a call from the person who found
Shortreed's lifeless body on the road, about one kilometre outside of Alma.

The car that hit him had fled the scene.

Police believe that car is a mid- to late-1990s Chrysler, Dodge or Plymouth,
white or light grey in colour. The vehicle will be damaged on the passenger front
corner and side, and the passenger window is likely smashed out as well.
