Thanks Paul. Yes....I always seem to have difficulty with reds over-saturating. The use of a polarizer sounds like a great idea and I'll give that a little whirl next time out. Thanks!
I like the different views that you are trying with your series of flower shots, Andy - its so hard to find a fresh point of view when dealing with such a popular and well photographed topic. I think that you've lost some detail and texture in this one with those lovely saturated reds. Perhaps its a combination of the bright lighting, and maybe the sensor reponse particular to the Digital Rebel (does the camera tend to hypersaturate reds?) I see that this is straight out of the camera without any post processing, so I'm curious about your camera settings. I find that using a circular polarizer, especially on bright days, helps to control "color bloom." In this regard, I think you were much more successful with "Glisten," where the detail, texture and color saturation were really outstanding.
Good exposure and DOF, Andy. Prominent display of the centre whorl of stamens. Used to pin one, synthetic of course, on my shirt once a year in remembrance of soldiers died on the battlefield.
