Gaudi's Park Guell (Parc Güell in Catalan), is Barcelona's most popular tourism site. But those who avoid it for this reason risk great loss of joy. I'm a sourpuss myself about crowds, and accidentally arrived on a Spanish holiday. Oy.

Güell is a whimsical Fantasyland of beauty, built between 1900 and 1914. All who come through the main entrance rush to the iconic salamander. Here Gaudi's passion for organic lines and shapes in nature begins and continues through the park.
