First Days in China

I left at 2am from CS for Houston and flew to Newark and then from Newark direct to Beijing. I thought perhaps we would fly over the north tip of Alaska at the most but we ended up flying directly over the North Pole, it was pretty crazy. Some pictures of what I saw are below. Projecting the course on the map looked weird as it was straight up from Newark, and then straight *east* and then straight down and a little to the east into Beijing. We actually flew over Lake Baikal, the largest freshwater lake in the world, but I think i was the only one excited about that.
Looking sort of north-east from the southwestern end of Lake Baikal.

Another shot, this was taken from behind the engine so there's some exhaust or something from the engines in the shot.

This is what happens when you cross the North Pole at 40000 feet.

Beijing University's Great Phallus, at least that's what *I* call it. Probably some memorial to something or other.

Sadly, it's GrabAU and not GrabOID, and yes, I did take this pic solely to make that joke.

The campus library, it is HUGE, still haven't been inside yet (didn't have my student ID at the time).

This is probably the most beautiful campus I've seen, but the weather so far has been absolutely atrocious.
