Overall I like 40d very much. I think the AF is definitely better than 20d. If you see the tree swallows in fly shots, you know that it is hard to get that kind of shots on 20d.
However, for AF it is not as good as 2d2 (no surprise here).

low light, i think the sensor is little nosier than 20d. But 40d do have a option to turn on in camera noise reduction, but i haven't use/test it myself yet.

The live view is a great feature, you will like it. Deeper raw buffer is also a big bonus for me.

In short, i think 40d is a worth upgrade. But you may want to have a option to return it, just in case you found that it is no much better than 20d for your shoot style.

I like it too a lot. The 300 with a TC amazes me. I need to sell my 600 and rest my back!
