In May, 2011, I had a chance to explore the Peruvian Amazon - specifically the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. We were there during an exceptionally high water season, and many of the riverside huts we saw were flooded. On the plus side, the extremely high water just brought us that much closer to the canopy - which made photographing the many birds and monkeys that much easier. The highlight of the trip though was a very rare sighting of a three-toed sloth swimming across on of the Amazon's many tributaries.
