Brown-headed cowbirds are well-known as nest parasites, which means they toss eggs and young of other species out of their nests to their deaths and then lay their own eggs in the nest, which the original nesting species of bird will sometimes feed and rear to adulthood for the cowbird. This behavior has contributed to the rarity of some of our western birds like Least Bell's Vireo and Southwest Willow Flycatcher.
