Colias cesonia
There is a "secret garden" at Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge where a staff botanist has spent many hours cultivating native plants and weeding out the non-native vegetation. Many of the native plants are larval hostplants and/or preferred nectar souces for wild butterflies. This southern dogface had everything it needed to complete its entire lifecycle within the secret garden, which is where we found it.
